History
In 1983 a committee of interested quilters met with the City of Red Deer Recreation Department regarding the formation of a non-profit Quilt Guild in order to provide a forum for individuals with a shared interest in quilting. This organization became the Central Alberta Quilters' Guild. Two Charter members, still active in the Guild today, are Valerie Boode and Shirley Mills. A mission statement was established that guides the Guild's growth and purpose.
Monthly meetings were originally held at Log Cabin Crafts (the first Red Deer quilt shop) until 1988 when the meetings moved to Wildflower Creations (another quilt shop) in Lacombe. Increased membership prompted a move to Lacombe Composite High School then back to Red Deer with meetings held at Eastview Community Association hall. Still more members prompted a move to Bower Kin Community Hall which has become the present meeting place, the first Monday of each month. Interested individuals may join the Guild for a nominal annual membership fee.
