Care Quilt sizes

This is offered as a handy reference on useful quilt sizes for all ages.

What size are Care quilts?

* approximate sizes*:

  • adult 50 inches by 70 inches;

  • youth 40 inches by 60 inches;

  • child 30 to 40 inches by 50 inches;

  • baby 30 inches by 40 inches.

    Adult

The adult quilt size is based on Victoria's Quilts. Victoria’s Quilts are designed for people fighting cancer and the quilts are sized to be suitable for a hospital bed. Quilts that are larger on a hospital bed may become a hazard for someone trying to get out of bed and having their feet becoming entangled in the excess fabric.

A 50 X 70 quilt will, like a hug, wrap around the shoulders of any sized person.

The 50 X 70 is suitable for the 12 year old boy who will be 15 years old in 3 years.

Youth

Youth - 40 X 60 - think the 8 year old.

A quilt that can be wrapped around them for comfort may be of more value than a bed sized quilt, and can be loved for many years. As the youth grows the comfort provided in the early years develops sentimental value.

40 X 60 is suitable for a Senior to cover while snoozing.

Child

Child - 30 to 40 X 50 inches - think about the 4 year old

Like Linus dragging his quilt for comfort - not too large nor too small. 30 X 40 inches works as a wheelchair lap quilt. (cut the lower corners to clear the wheels)

Baby

Baby 30 X 40 inches

This quilt may start out being used by the parent as a crib blanket or a play mat. The child may eventually drag it anywhere. A baby quilt that falls apart on the way to the first day of kindergarten is a successful quilt.
